Waiting

These Sparrows were waiting for some water at Houmoed Waterhole in Kalahari Transfrontier Park.
You can literally feel their thirst...

Another photo that I remember very well...

Again Taken in Kgalagadi. During our trip in November 2007 we saw many dead Elands.

A bad drought caused a migration from Botswana to the waterholes in the South African part of the Park. Many of the Elands died on the way to the water, many of them died after they had reached the waterholes. Some of them due to exhaustion and some of them as they gulped too much of the allegedly redemptive water.

We found this poor Eland the morning before this photo was taken. It obviously had died during the night, that morning there were a couple of Jackals fighting for their food. The next day we found these Vultures sitting underneath one of the rare trees waiting for their turn....

Poor elands, dying after reaching water.

But then, the jackals & vultures might think differently.
